THESE ARE OTHERS CLASSMATES dISCUSSION BOARDS. I NEED YOU TO REPOND TO THEIR DISCUSSION BOARD IN 250 WORDS. POST 1 When Wampanoag, Massasoit era first encountered the Pilgrims, they were viewed as non-threats to the tribe, especially with the elders, women, and children.  The Wampanoag offered crops and food with the exchange of knives and steel etc.  Massasoit and Edward Winslow were mutually comprehensive in trying to keep peace on the both sides.  The relationships were not perfect, though tensions and frictions between the Wampanoag and white settlers were displayed.  But no matter the differences, they were able to work alongside one another.  After the passing of Edward Winslow and Massasoit, conflicts, tensions, and frictions were caused mostly by the arrival of the Puritans.  The Puritans arrived with the sense of entitlement to the land and the expectations of converting the natives into adapting their way of life, politically, economically and spiritually.  So, the cultural differences were tense and filled with resentment amongst the tribe and its leaders. Josiah Winslow did not continue his father good relationship with the Wampanoag.  The personal bonds between the first generational groups were broken.   Josiah Winslow is hungry for power and land and finds Philip to be the obstacles to his entitlement of the land.  Winslow will find any means to provoke a war with Philip.  Philip felt betrayed with the sense of losing their identity, and economic changes were forced to sell their land.  In my examination of the two leaders, I find that Philip had no choice other than the ultimate sacrifice by leading his people into war to preserve their tradition and way of life.   As for Josiah Winslow, is more selfish and will do anything to conquer American land.  If I was the leader of my people, and If I was in Philip position, I too will have no choice but  to declare war on the white settlers.  Would you do the same? POST 2 To start off with some general differences between the white settlers and the Wampanoag tribe are the population, weapons and health care. At first the Indians out numbered the Pilgrims when they first arrived but soon the white settlers outnumbered the Indians when more came to settle and take away land from Indians. Weapons play a major role in the outcome of colonization because the white settlers came with firearms and swords which compared to what Indians made for themselves to use for protection was nothing. Furthermore, the immune systems of the white settlers compared to Indians were strong but in different ways. Indians were never exposed to the deadly diseases that the white settlers brought to America, which of course killed thousands of Indians and bringing a higher ratio of white settlers to Indians. Both Massasoit and Edward Winslow at first were hesitant to the new comers but both agreed for peace between the two groups and kept that treaty for years. Phillip on the other hand wanted to follow his father’s footsteps and keep peace as much as possible but was dealing almost with a different time and different kinds of white settlers, leading to war. Josiah Winslow really never had it out for the Indians, didn’t care as much as his father did to keep the treaty as is. Except if they became Christian of course. If Phillip and Josiah would have kept the treaty as it was placed by their father’s, with all rules still intact, and had no ill will towards each other, do you think the bloodshed of Indian tribes would have been exponentially smaller?
