Sports rehabilitation, best known as physical medicine, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those who have physical disabilities. They specialize in restoring optimal functioning to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, tissues, and nervous system. This field grew notably during World War II to accommodate the large number of soldiers that were injured. The main goal of these physicians was to return people to their original physical state or even improve their physical endurance. There are many ways of treating these injuries. For example with use of heating pads, ice packs, traction devices, water baths for both heat and cold, infrared light, electrotherapy units, and the “Stimulator”. Sports rehabilitation can be found in a lot of places, but mostly in sport complexes. There are multiple physical therapy centers found in hospitals. Every professional sports team has a personal trainer/physical therapist that accompanies the team wherever they go to take care of the athletes’ injuries and to prevent them. The most common injuries are sprains, strains, shin splints, Achilles tendonitis or rupture of the Achilles tendon, dislocation of joints, and fractures. After getting one of these injuries an athlete will probably visit a rehabilitation center in which they will have to be treated for two to six months in therapy. After that, they will receive their release that will prove that they are fully recovered from all injuries and will be able to return to their common activities. Throughout the years technology has played a very big role in ing recovering athletes all around the world. In the early years, treatment only consisted of putting a cast… … middle of paper … …recovering 100% from an ACL rupture would take you about a year. Sports rehabilitation has made and created hope for many human beings in this world, they have ed bring back from the ground to stand up and keep running. All athletes call this process, The Comeback. Every athlete that has any type of injury dreams with having a great Comeback, but the Comeback comes with hard work and determination to achieve it. All can be achieved with great effort and consistency, but is needed threw the way. People/Athletes will always try to prevent any injury by working hard with a personal trainer or any kind of physical training, remember it is easier to train hard from what you have to begin from cero and reach the top. In conclusion, sport rehabilitation is extremely important for any activity, from the greatest athletes to the boy in street playing with a ball.
