Many people who smoke claim that it s relax them, or that it s reduce their stress. This could be argued very easily and say that they’re under the placebo effect and think that it relaxes them, because that’s what they’ve heard people say for years. People believe that banning cigarette smoking would be taking away their rights, there are others who believe that it should be banned because of the effects it has on others, and then there are those who could care less either way it goes. I believe that cigarette smoking should be banned because it causes serious health issues for those who smoke, it can also cause health issues for those who are just around cigarette smokers, and there are no positive factors of smoking. Tobacco use for smoking began in America in the 17th century, but it wasn’t until 1865 that cigarettes were sold for profit when a man in North Carolina, Washington Duke, began to roll them and sell them. The mass production of cigarettes began in 1883 when James Bonsack invented a machine that could roll and produce cigarettes by the thousands. He later began the first company to produce cigarettes on a large scale, the American Tobacco Company. This mechanical production of cigarettes made cigarette smoking more popular. By the 19th century, cigarettes were sold in packs of ten with different logos of the different tobacco companies that produced them. Tobacco companies used cards inside the cigarette pack with attractive prints to double as reinforcement for the cigarette packs and advertisement. Cigarette smoking was initially a habit for soldiers, but as the years progressed cigarette smoking became more popularized among the common people, being described as “a fun and even healthy activity.” Smoking… … middle of paper … …ause it’s the leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States, it harms everyone, it can ruin people’s lives, and it has no benefits.
