It seems that we forget how impactful the sixties have been on our lives today. It has given us some of the things that we take for granted. Things such as technological advancements, freedom for all no matter what one’s race, and as importantly, it have given us equality among genders, and the laws that protect the environment. Even though, women are still being discriminated against in many places including the workplace, the rights that they have gained are tremendous. And it has only been only about 50 years. Today, it seems that we are only just noticing the impact that we have on the environment through the deal about global warming. But the awareness has been present since the sixties. The two readings, The Feminine Mystique and Silent Spring, by Betty Friedan and Rachel Carson respectively, have brought into light these two important topics, women’s and environmental rights.
