Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are two mental disorders that manifest as eating disorders. These disorders have many things in common, such as the fact that they both are extremely unhealthy and damaging to the body. They are also uncommon in certain ways, such as the way they symptoms of each and the kinds of treatment given to the people that suffer from them. The point of this essay is to compare and contrast one treatment of each disorder. The treatments this essay will focus on are outpatient treatment, composed of CBT and family therapy, and behavioral therapy. Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that results in a very low body weight. This low body weight is achieved by not eating any food that is deemed fattening by the person They are harmful to the body and the psyche of the people that are diagnosed with them. Both are closely tied to anxiety disorders and depression, but can not necessarily be treated in the same manner that those disorders are treated in. This essay focused on outpatient therapy as a treatment for anorexia nervosa and behavioral therapy as a treatment for bulimia nervosa. The outpatient therapy consisted of family therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, which has shown to be effective in ing to manage anorexia nervosa. These forms of therapy have also been show to people that suffer with bulimia nervosa, but has not produced the results that behavioral therapy has. The part of the bulimia nervosa behavioral therapy treatment this essay focused on was cue exposure therapy, which has shown in many studies to be highly effective in reducing the urge to binge and purge. I have learned through the process of writing this paper is that while on treatment may be somewhat useful for an array of disorders, the most effective treatment comes when the particular challenges and personality traits of the patients are
